Foster Homes

Adopt-A-Pet is in need of foster homes to provide temporary care to an orphan who is currently being boarded at a veterinary clinic with little attention or exercise. Unfortunately, we are limited to the number of animals we can help by the number of foster homes. Having more foster homes allows us to accept more dogs and cats in need. Being a foster home consists of taking temporary custody of one or more of our critters until a permanent home is found. We will put interested parties in touch with you to meet your temporary guest.

Adopt-A-Pet will provide all food, necessary supplies and reimburse expenses for any foster home which has the heart to foster but not the financial capability.

Read more information below to understand what being a Foster Home is about.

Phone Screeners

We desperately need more people to return calls to potential adopters, conduct phone interviews, review applications and check references, and set up meetings for the adopter to meet the animal(s). Although this is a job that's done from your home, it can be time consuming. Even a one-day-a-month commitment will help. All you need is a phone, reliable internet access, and the time to commit.

Adoption Counselors

We need people to meet potential adopters at vet clnics where we have animals boarded. We need people to be present at adoption shows to speak with potential adopters. This is a "help when you can" type of job, with no regular commitment required, although it makes the job easier if you stay involved on a somewhat regular basis.

Adoption Show Helpers

On weekends we do adoption shows, rotating locations at various pet stores throughout the suburbs. We need people to help set up our cages and tables, show cats, hold dogs, talk to people, answer questions and hand out literature. This is a "help when you can" type of job, with no regular commitment required.

Clerical Helpers

There are a variety of clerical jobs that we always need help with such as computer data entry or assembling adoption packets. Most clerical jobs can be done from your home, although you may need to pick up materials in the Hawthorn Woods/Lake Zurich area.

Transporters

Now and then we need an animal transported from one place to another, such as from a vet clinic to an adoption show. All you need is a car and a driver's license! This is a "help when you can" type of job, with no regular commitment required.

Dog Walkers

We do not own a shelter facility where volunteers can come to walk dogs, However, we sometimes must board dogs at our associated vet clinics when there aren't enough foster homes. To give these dogs a little break from the cage, we appreciate anybody who can come to the clinics to walk them and socialize them. Dog walkers can come at their own convenience as long as it's during clinic hours. Dog walkers are needed in the Morton Grove, Des Plaines, Skokie, Norwood Park and Mt. Prospect areas. You must be 21 years old, and a minimum once-a-week commitment is required, although many weeks there may not be any dogs to walk.

This is a "help when you can" type of job, with no regular commitment required.
